Chocolate Crossiants

Mini Chocolate Crossiants

I belong to a cooking club with a group of really fun women.  We meet once a month to eat, drink, laugh and of course chat! Each month there is a different theme. The way our club works is that each month one of the members hosts the group at their home and provides drinks.  The other members come with dishes that represent the current theme.  The dish could be a main dish, side dish, dessert, drink or anything that the member dares to make.

This month’s theme was Oscars Night.  We had to choose an Oscar nominated movie and make something that reflected the movie.  Up until the day before I really had no idea what I was going to make until…. I realized that Hugo took place in FRANCE.. and CROISSANTS are FRENCH pastries…. and that means that I could make my favorite pastry…. chocolate croissants…… BUT WAIT.. I really don’t like to bake… arghhh… It means using mixing cups and I HATE to measure…. so restrictive.  Plus I have no time to bake from scratch……  so I did a bit of research and decided to take a short cut……. Here is what I did…

Ingredients:

  • 2 Sheets of Puff Pastry Thawed (1 Package)
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 Tbsp water (for glaze)
  • 3 to 4 (3.5 – 4 oz) bars  bittersweet chocolate cut into long narrow pieces (see below)
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Powdered Cocoa

How to:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper
  • Cut each Pastry sheet into 12 squares
  • Brush each square lightly with egg glaze
  • Place a piece of chocolate on each square
