D is for Dylan’s Crazy Salad. Dylan is my 11 year old son. He loves salad. Last Saturday he made a shopping list and asked me to buy all the items so he could make a salad for the family for dinner. WOWWWWW … someone preparing a meal for me? Exciting!
His shopping list included: mesclun salad greens, baby spinach, celery, cucumber, kale, radishes, tomatoes, avocado, eggs, gorgonzola cheese, red onion, pepperoncini, black olives, parsley and red peppers. I suggested the bacon since I had some left from the Dyed Easter Deviled Eggs I was preparing for the next day.
He is not quite ready to use a chef knife, but he did well with the small basic utility knife I gave him. He loved using the egg cutter too. It was a great Cobb like salad that he now calls his Crazy salad. Everyone loved the salad. We ate it with Rosemary Gorgonzola Burgers.
Next week is my 7 year old daughter wants in on the action. She is already planning her salad and she is competitive. Let’s see what she comes up with.
Wow – go Dylan! Beautiful salad.
Thank you! Dylan says thank you too!
Your son’s salad looks delicious!! For anyone who says salad is boring, they need to peek at Dylan’s creation. YUMMO!! Happy A-to-Z 2013! ~Angela, Whole Foods Living, http://www.wholefoodsliving.blogspot.com/
So terrific to include your kids in cooking. It helps you and helps them. I think that all the cooking shows encourage family cooking. The salad looks yummy.
How wonderful that your eleven year old prepared a meal…what a beautiful, “crazy” salad! I’m a little envious. He already looks like a pro in the kitchen 😉
Thank you so much! Both my kids love to cook! They are always at my feet watching and helping. My youngest loves to watch cooking shows with me too
